Impossible Landscapes – The Nightfloors (Postmortem)

Nightfloors Postmortem

Wow, that was an interesting ride.

Just to give you a feeling how close of loosing Thomas was. Would Thomas have reached Insight of 6 he would have gone insane. One bad Insight throw, would have been enough to drive him over the edge.
And Impossible Landscape distributes Insanity shattering events like hotcakes.

But he made it out, even though he is now a glowing beacon for the corrupting power that was at work in the Macallistar building, with a corruption score with 10 out of 10. “Did you see the yellow sign?”

This playthrough of a prewritten module combined two firsts for me:
– My first totally completed prewritten module
– My first complete solo play through on mobile

I pondered since I bought Impossible Landscape directly after its release, when and how I would be able to solo any adventure out of this campaign. And I can tell you Impossible Landscape is impressive but also kind of overwhelming. But somehow on my last vacation with my family things got concrete.

On my mobile phone I started to extract the Adventure Structure, as well as the clues, residents and manifestations of the scenario. And suddenly with everything laid out in front of me I thought “Why not start to play now?”
So I collected all apps together I needed:
– Adventuresmith for rolling dice and some rand tables, as well for UNE
– Assistant for Mythic to drive Mythic as my GM Emulator
– Evernote to take notes

And then I just started to play. And it flowed really well.

I struggled to get through Impossible Landscape by just reading it, but through the lense of soloplay I could focus on the things important for the moment.
This makes the whole much more accessible and enjoyable for me.

The downside is, I might miss a ton of content, because it is not accessed through the random mechanics I decided to use. But I still could read afterwards, so no harm done. And there is so much more content. At least nightfloors, you probably could play three times and you would always get wildly different results.

But I really enjoyed this end result.

Also the development of easy accessible AI art is a god send for horror fans. AI art is inherent creepy!

So thanks for everyone who joined the ride!
