Impossible Landscapes – The Nightfloors (Session 6)

Scene 13 – Searching a way out (CF:6) – 11:30 pm
Thomas wants to go back to the smoking lounge > Traveling Nightfloors > Corruption Check > 1d10 vs 7 > 10 fail > Corruption rises to 8

Encounter > Resident > The Dog >
Suddenly there stands a Dog in the apartment corridor.

The Dog is a large, grey, long-haired mastiff.

The Dog looks at us interested but none threatening.

ThomasW:”David? Did you ever saw that dog before?”

Can David see the Dog? > Very likely > Yes
Did he tell Thomas he saw it before? > 50/50 > Yes

DavidL:”Now that you mention it. I did. I think I saw it way back at the Smoking Lounge.”
ThomasW:”I have a crazy idea. Maybe the dog can lead us back?”
DavidL:”You think so?”
ThomasW:”Do you by chance have anything on you from the Smoking Lounge? Also do you carry anything to eat?”
Does David reveals anything he carries from the smoking lounge? 50/50 > Exceptional No
Does David reveals to have some food on him? 50/50 > Yes

David searches through his pockets, and reveals a hand full of crackers.

DavidL:”I knew I should have packed some cigars, dammit.”

ThomasW:”We cannot change that. Feed the dog, try to win its trust!”

Does David wins the trust of the dog by feeding it > very likely > Random event: Remote event: Intolerance Inside

Just as David was about to present the crackers to the Dog, loud screams and the sound of ceramics smashed against the wall is soaring through the hallway coming from one of the nearby apartments.

From the apartment:
Men:”You crazy bitch, stop… *sound of ceramic thrown against the wall”
Woman:”How can you dare to betray me with that monster!”
Men:”She is not a monster, she is a human like me .*ceramic smash*”
Woman:”You meant like you and me.”
Man in a sarcastic voice:”If you say so.” *ceramic smash*
Woman:”She is black Stewart! Black how could you do that to me!” Crying is heard from inside the apartment. Then the sound of a creaking door, but the apartment door is not moving.

Did the sound scared the dog away? 50/50 > Yes >

Scared by the loud sound of smashed plates, the dog runs down the corridor.

ThomasW:”Do not let it escape! Run!”

Is DavidL following Thomas order and follows the Dog? > likely > Yes

Thomas and David are chasing behind the dog.

Do they lose track of the Dog? 50/50 > Yes

The Dog runs pretty fast for its weight and apparent age. After a few twist and turns Thomas and David have to give up exhausted.

Did Thomas lose David? > unlikely > Yes

Thomas is catching his breath.
ThomasW:”Man that Dog can run! I should jog more, am I right David? David?”
Thomas is looking beside him and David is gone. Probably got lost some twists earlier, meaning he could be anywhere in this living labyrinth of morphing nightmare walls.
ThomasW:”I’m sorry David.” Thomas whispers quietly.

Scene 14 – Alone again (CF:7) – 00:30 am
Scene is interrupted!
NPC positive (The Dog): Failure Portals

Thomas slenders exhausted through the hallways, when he sees a big black pair of legs, wiggling out of a opening in one of the Doors.

Did the old stupid dog try to crawl through a cat hole, in one of the doors, and got stuck? It seems so!

Thomas grabs the Dog by its legs and pulls it out.

Does Thomas has something to eat on him? 50/50 > Exceptional Yes

Then Thomas suddenly remebers that he packed a turkey sandwhich as proviant for the night. He grabs into his jacket and pulls it out. He divides it into two halfs. He eats one of it and gives the other to the dog.

ThomasW:”I hope you appreciate it. If I stay stuck here I probably gave my lastline to an old stupid dog.
You not might know how to get back to the smoking lounge do you?”

Does the Dog reacts to that? 50/50 > Yes

As if the Dog clearly understood what Thomas wanted he slowly starts to walk to lead the way.

Does Thomad has any encounter following the dog > 50/50 > yes > 1-4 Manisfistations, 5-6 Resident > 6 > Random Resident > The Author

Thomas is hearing someone faintly, hidden in one of the many rooms of the Night Floors, typing and listening to a single phonograph record over and over again.

Is Thomas following up on that noise > unlikely > No

Thomas heard and seen weirder things before, and he does not want to lose the dog again.

Does Thomas has another encounter before reaching their goal? > likely > Exceptional Yes > Random Manisfistation > Movie >

Thomas passes a stenciled door labeled “PROJECTION.” The door suddenly is pulled open from inside, causing the machine noise to drown out all noise in the hall. A small woman in overalls steps out.

ThomasW shouts to the woman:”Are you okay?”

She cups her hands to her ears. She points back to the projector.
Then she points at her watch and walks off.

ThomasW:”Wait!”

But she just walks away.

Thomas looks inside the room.

Inside the room, a giant projector spits blinding light through a tiny window.

Is the dog still with him > likely > Yes

ThomasW:”Wait here, my little fella. I have to check something out”.

Thomas goes into the room with the projector. He looks through the window.

He can’t see what’s on the screen. It’s too bright. But they see a lone figure clothed in gold and silver near the front of the otherwise empty theater.

It stands, turns, and begins to remove a strange, white mask. At that moment, the projector emits a sizzle and a puff of smoke and turns off, and the room on the far side goes black.

Corruption Check > 1d10 against 8 > 6 > No change

ThomasW:”Holy fuck what was that? I should get the fuck out!”

Thomas continuos to follow the dog.

Suddenly Thomad realizes they pass a room he saw before. This is the room where he found David.

Is Thomas take any of the books to examine? > unlikely > Exceptional Yes

ThomasW thinks:”Screw it! When I’m stuck here I can also stop and smell the roses. So what is written in those books?”

He takes one random book and opens it up.

Corruption Check > 1d10 vs 8 > 3 > no change

He discovers that it is The Dreaming Man’s Library by Louis Lam (Harcourt Brace, 1941). In a story about a hobo who consumes books like food, it describes in great detail a dream that Thomas once had.

Dark Die against Insight > 1 vs 6 > no change

Thomas immediatly regrets his decision. Sweating he puts the book back. He continues to walk with the Dog.

Thomas and the dog are suddenly stopped in their tracks by
three men in large, old-looking gas masks, carrying shotguns blocking the corridor.
